Week 06 - *Card Games and Brainstorming*

This week, we talked about and experimented with different card games. I didn't realize how in-depth some of these games were, and how much effort and planning goes into the creation of these games. Regardless of the type of card game (shedding, exchanging, etc.), they all seem to require a great deal of planning, conceptualization, tweaks, and prototyping to reach a final stage that is balanced and entertaining. It's going to be interesting to see what me and my group come up with as we start to brainstorm our own game, and we'll be doing much of this conceptualization and prototyping in the near future, which I'm excited about. Macklin & Sharp state, "The point of the brainstorm is to come up with lots of ideas to sort through later." I believe the games we played in class were good experiments to perform to get our ideas flowing, and we should be able to cooperate to make something interesting.

My group seems to have understood and enjoyed the Exploding Kittens card game in class, because of the creative and easy-to-learn design of the shedding card game, and the fact that there is a clear winner at the end. The Crew was a little harder to understand, and our group didn't understand the point of the game at first, but with enough tries, we understood that the game was much different than Exploding Kittens in the fact that The Crew is a cooperative card game, where the players try to work together and help each other out to complete the goals of the game. Overall, I think many creative ideas will come from what we've learned and the experiments with the games in class, and I can't wait to start brainstorming and see what we create!
